I go to work on Monday morning as usual, and check in with Tim at mid-day. He says that he's not doing so well; his temp is up and his sats (90 when he was admitted yesterday) are down to 85. He's having a lot of trouble breathing.
I get over to the hospital on Monday evening, and find that Tim is very groggy, very uncomfortable, very out of it. I ask if they've given him some kind of strong pain medication that has made him sleepy, but he says no. The nurses and he talk about how exhausted he is after several sleepless nights.
They have taken sputum cultures to discover what the cause of the pneumonia is, but no results are in yet.
I stay with him until he falls asleep.
