Some good news, some puzzles

The day started with good news. The cultures all came back negative: no infection, no pneumonia. So why the breathing problems? Dr. P. thinks it's "time and energy", with Tim not having had enough of either. He wants to try Tim out on a regimen of getting up in the chair during the day, then going on the respirator at night--to give him more time for recovery and to build up more stamina. That'll start tomorrow.

In the meantime, in other developments, Sunday night's new fever repeated itself on Monday night, with another spike of 101+. Yet in between, nice quiet temps of 98. Then this afternoon, his temp started increasing up to 102.

When I got back to the hospital at 7:00, Tim had ice packs on his shoulders, under his arms, and on the backs of his knees--and was cooling off to 101.

Dr. P. was aware of the fever, and assumes it's a reaction to the antibiotics (which were discontinued this a.m. when the culture results came in). He did order new blood cultures.

And more challenges came with Tim's trach popping out twice in the last 24 hours. When I left at 8:30, he was still waiting for a doctor to evaluate that; they may change the trach to a different size.

So, what's to say? Waiting and watching. Assuming the best. Praying. Grateful to you. Good night.
