Trying to get out

We're lost in the bureaucracy today.

Dr. P. pronounced Tim ready to go this morning. His blood gases after 16 hours off the respirator yesterday were really good, and so the regimen works, and he's ready to do it at home (16 off/8 on the respirator).

Just one thing: who's going to monitor the respirator? Tim's PCAs? Who's going to train them? Dr. P. offered the idea that Tim could get transferred to a rehab hospital where they do an excellent job of education on these kinds of transitions.

Just one other thing: who are the excellent educators going to educate? The PCAs? Who's going to pay them to get this training? How? When? And when they're done, will the PCAs be certified to safely perform this job? Why will the excellent educators do such a better job than the respiratory therapists at the hospital? Is it worth it to get transferred to another bed across town?

So we're trying to figure out what's what. Tim's got a nurse coming in tomorrow to assess what will be the best plan.

I'll write more then when we know more. Right now we just gotta figure out who does what when and who certifies that they know how to do it. :^)
