5th week a charm?

Four weeks ago Tim diagnosed his pneumonia and turned himself in to the hospital on a Sunday afternoon to "get it taken care of." Now, on Tim's fifth Sunday in, it looks as though he could be close to "getting paroled," as he put it.

It was another good day of progress, with Tim weaning most of the time from 10:00 to 8:00, up in his chair from 11:00 to 8:00, and completely off the vent using the Passy Muir for several hours.

Only two wispy, question-mark-shaped clouds in the sky: raised temps (100) from 4:00-7:00, and the return of shoulder pain. (For a good month before he came to the hospital, Tim had been complaining of severe pain in his left shoulder. Now that he's been back in his chair for a couple days, some level of pain is returning.)

Tomorrow he does the "swallow test". That involves swallowing liquid while being x-rayed to assure that he's not aspirating what he's swallowing. If he passes, big things could be in store. Things like soft food. Mmmmm.

I'll try to post a picture of that x-ray. Doesn't it sound interesting?

Good night now.
